A Statement from ATD CEO Tony Bingham

Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Injustice, inequality, and racism, in every form, are reprehensible. If we want to create a world that truly works better we must do the hard work of building cultures, communities, and workforces that are equitable, where diversity and inclusion are not buzzwords, but ingrained in the fabric of who we are and how we live and work. As we help our communities and workplaces, we must address the systemic inequality and injustice facing members of our society.

The ATD community is global and inclusive. The work that our members do day in and day out is focused on learning, unleashing human potential, and creating opportunity for others. Today, that work takes on new meaning, new relevance, and new impact.

We are committed to helping build cultures of diversity, equality, and inclusion. Listening to each other with empathy, learning, and understanding will help us work together to create a path forward for our communities and workplaces.

Hi everyone, and thank you all for reaching out. ATD has a number of resources devoted to diversity and inclusion and have curated these into a special resources page on our site: https://www.td.org/diversity-inclusion-resources.
We will continue to add new blogs and additional content to this page, and will continue to seek out important voices and bring those to our global community.
We appreciate your engagement in these important conversations and look forward to our continued discussion together.

In addition, the October issue of TD magazine will include content addressing this important topic. We invite you to review the updated Talent Development Capability Model released several months ago. Cultural awareness and inclusion is a capability in the model, and the areas of diversity and inclusion are included in the knowledge and skill statements of this capability. More information can be found at tdcapability.org.

Thank you Tony for this! I also would like to know how ATD plans on executing on their promise to support all and practice anti-racism. Also, what resources can you share with other LD professionals that will help us support our own organizations past the diversity and inclusion training?

Thank you Tony for this, I would be curious to also hear more specifics of how ATD will support the TD community in stepping up to the work we have ahead of us, and how ATD is practicing anti-racism as an organization? We all have a responsibility to use our platform and our power to help our organizations become more just and inclusive. I hope to see tangible, practical support from ATD to truly help the TD community address systemic racism and inequality, to chart that path forward together.
